Like most local lakes, the Ferry Pond freeze-up is delayed this season. The warm December temperatures have actually begun to thaw the ice that formed in late November! The ice on the Ferry Pond usually never gets more than about 12 inches thick and seldom forms at all in the NE corner of the pond. This is because of the high water table and ground water flow. This beautiful early morning photograph taken by Mark Mosey a week ago showed the pond starting to freeze.
